The beauty of the creative process has nothing to do with the end product.

Last week our band had a session at Rhythm Ace Studio in Oakura - recording 5 new Twin Tiger tracks.

It’s always rewarding getting to the recording stage, as it represents a significant investment:

- Hours writing lyrics and exploring musical ideas

- Ditching multiple ideas that are no good

- Weeks of rehearsals

- Testing the songs during live perfomances

- Time out of work (so painful!)

- Studio booking fees

Nowadays, you can generate a fairly decent song in a matter of minutes using Ai platforms such ElevenLabs, MakeBestMusic and Suno. And to be fair, AI music is likely to perform better on streaming platforms like Spotify, than our amateur attempts at songwriting.

So why would we bother investing all that energy into something that can now be made better in just a few minutes?

The beauty of the creative process has very little to do with the end product.

It’s hidden in the moments that nobody sees.

- Shared mistakes and sense of progress

- Wrestling with ideas until they make sense

- Learning to play together as a single unit

- Constant banter and strong camaraderie

All these things make our band a group of better connected friends.

All these things would never (ever) happen within the space of a minute-long prompt.

Why are we so hell-bent on giving this magic away?

We are born to make things, and enjoy the privilege of community.

I am not anti-Ai.

Just pro-human.
